Weekend Edit: Children’s Outfit Ideas for Christmas Day

There are a few rules in our house when it comes to Christmas. Number one, you must wear new pjs on Christmas Eve, you know, so Santa sees you looking at your best. Number two, stockings must contain chocolate money, satsumas and a new toothbrush. Number three, Christmas is not complete without a selection box, because there’s such a shortage of chocolate and treats at this time of the year. Number four, Snowdog and Home Alone are essential viewing. And finally, the kids have to have new outfits for Christmas day.

In an ideal world, I’d have a new outfit too, but I am usually too worried about not serving up a raw turkey, to give two hoots about what I am wearing. Though this year it wont be me doing the cooking, as we are going to the in-laws! I prefer to buy the children an outfit that they can wear for more than just the one day over Christmas. They get bought a Christmas jumper to wear to school near the end of term, so there is no need for me to buy them another. Though obviously their outfit for Christmas day is not bought by me, its wrapped by elves and delivered by reindeer on Santa’s sleigh.

My children still believe in Santa and I really want this to last as soon as possible. Having children brings the magic of Christmas back and I am not ready for it to end just yet. Charlie has already asked the question, but I am hoping that I dodged the bullet by explaining that the ones in the shop aren’t real, but of course the Santa delivering presents on Christmas Eve is!

I thought I would share with you a few of the things I have had my eye on for them to wear on Christmas day. I’ll start with Elodie, she is 2 now, so wears things from the baby/toddler department of most shops, depending on where I shop from.

Noah likes to be really comfortable in everything he wears, so there is zero point in my buying anything too constrictive. Even super stretchy skinny jeans are out of the question, he just hates the way they feel and I can kind of understand where he’s coming from. There’s nothing worse than a pair of jeans that you have to spend the entire day hitching back up around your waist.

Here are a few things that I think he might like to wear on Christmas day.

As soon as I spotted this dress in the Next catalogue, I knew it was one that Charlie would love. I best get my skates on and order it up fast, its so lovely, I can’t imagine it will stick around for long! Charlie is getting really into clothes and what she wears now, it is so sweet to watch her growing up and developing her own tastes. Even if at time those tastes can be somewhat questionable at best …

I am thoroughly enjoying getting in the festive season ready for Christmas. As I sit and type this now, Christmas tunes gently filtering through the cafe I am working from and I have a warm chai latte by my side. It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas, even if it is only November, but who cares, it brightens up these cooler days with a feeling of warmth and optimism. Tell me, where’s the harm in that?
